Description

St James the Great, Haydock - A Church Near You

St James' is the CofE parish church at the east end of Haydock, part of the Borough of St Helens. We are under the episcopal care of the Bishop of Beverley, and the celebration of the Eucharist on Sundays (and also during the week) is the sustaining heart of our common life. You can find details of our regular Services and meetings by clicking here. Newcomers and visitors are always welcome at St. James' - we look forward to seeing you! If you click here you'll be taken to a page where you can see various news items and download our Pew Sheet notices. This church has an interesting history, with lots of stories of determination and conflict woven in. Since its consecration in 1866 it has been in the Anglo-Catholic tradition, and in the early days people traveled by train to witness its Services. It's story is available as a download - click here for details. Haydock, originally a mining village, lies about half way between Liverpool and Manchester, close to the intersection of the M6 motorway and the A580 East Lancashire Road. The church is quite easy to find - it's on the main road through Haydock itself, about half a mile east of the local Tesco store.
